History
The village was founded in 1775 on the shore of the Southern Bug . The population is 1839 people, the area is 3.282 km². Center Bogdanovsky village council.
During the Great Patriotic War, the village was part of the Romanian occupation zone . The occupation authorities in Bogdanovka built a concentration camp for Jews in the pig farm near the Southern Bug River .
Concentration camp
In the fall of 1941, Romanian invaders in the village of Bogdanovka created a concentration camp for Jews on the territory of a pig complex near the Southern Bug River .
At the end of 1941, there were about 54 thousand people in the camp. In December 1941, after the outbreak of typhoid , it was decided to destroy all prisoners. The Romanian authorities (according to a number of sources - with the participation of German troops) launched a massacre on December 21, 1941 . The operation to exterminate the Jews, timed to coincide with the birthday of Stalin , was called " A Gift to Stalin ." The prisoners were forced to dig holes in the frozen ground with their bare hands and put in them the bodies of their comrades-in-arms just shot or burnt alive in the sheds.
The number of victims executed in the Domanevsky district exceeds 115 thousand people, of which about 55 thousand are directly in Bogdanovka [1] [2] [3] .
The organizers of the executions, M. Ionescu, V. Manescu and several others , were sentenced to death in 1945 , which was subsequently replaced by life imprisonment [4] .
