Cable coupling (from it. Muffe or niderl. Mouwtje ) - a device designed to connect electrical and optical cables in a cable line and for their supply to electrical installations, station structures, overhead power lines and communications . Couplings are a set of parts and materials that ensures the restoration of the electrical, structural and mechanical integrity of the cable. The composition of the kit is determined by the operating voltage , frequency , number of wires, type of insulation and cable design features.

Ways of connecting cable lived
Symmetric cable can be connected in the following ways:
- twist;
- twisted soldering;
- c using clamps: individual or group;
- using crimping sleeves
- using bolted connectors .
Twisted cable connection is used in the least critical lines, as it does not provide reliable contact for a long time. The veins connected by means of twisting and twisting with soldering are isolated using dielectric sleeves.
There is not enough core contact to connect coaxial cables - it is necessary to preserve electrical parameters. Therefore, coaxial cables are connected using special sleeves.
Optical fibers are spliced by welding , or using one-piece connectors. When splicing optical fibers, the preparation of optical fibers is of great importance: the ends of optical fibers should be as smooth as possible, the surface should not be contaminated with dust. Modern welding machines for optical fibers allow on-site control of the quality of welding, which includes a microscope , as well as a test laser , which allows you to check the attenuation of the signal during the passage of the weld.
The conductors of power cables are connected with the help of lugs, which are tightened with bolts, or sleeves; they are attached to the core either by bolts or crimping.
Classification
Depending on the destination cable sleeves are divided into connecting and end (dead-end).
