Economic value
Buriganga is an important transport artery of the country. Shipping traffic on it is very intense. Despite the unpleasant smell and black color, the locals use the river for bathing and washing clothes.
Ecological environment
It is considered one of the most polluted rivers on the planet: the water from the river can not only be drunk, but even used for washing and technical purposes. Although the country has a legal ban on the discharge of waste into rivers, 1.5 million cubic meters of industrial waste is discharged daily into Buriganga. The river is recognized biologically dead [1] [2] [3] .
