The first game in the series, Soul Edge ( Soul Blade outside of Japan ), was released in April 1996 as an arcade slot machine ( Namco System 11 platform ). Subsequently, it was ported to the Sony PlayStation game console . All subsequent games in the series were called Soul Calibur , most of them also appeared in the form of slot machines, but some games were released only on game consoles.
