Technical defeat, victory, draw - a result in sports competitions, which is counted by one of the parties involved in the competition without holding its game with an opponent or after its early termination, as well as due to the cancellation of the result of the game. The opponent of the party who received the technical defeat is credited with a technical victory, or a draw or defeat is counted for both sides.
A technical defeat, victory or draw is awarded in a situation where the meeting between the rivals for some reason did not take place or began, but was not completed properly, allowing you to record the result of the meeting in accordance with the general rules, or ended, but after completion it was found rude violation of the rules or regulations of the competition by one or both parties. Typical examples of such situations are:
- Failure of one or both parties to appear on the game.
- Early departure of one of the parties from the tournament .
- Termination of one of the parties to the game before its completion.
- The referee terminates the game due to the actions of the fans.
- Failure to comply with the requirements of a judge .
- Participation in a match of a player who did not have the right to do so ( disqualified , not having the citizenship of the respective country, etc.).
- Malicious violation of the rules of the tournament or sports ethics .
- Technical malfunction belonging to one of the teams of the sports facility, which does not allow to continue the game (turning off the light, collapse of structures, etc.)
As a rule, the award of a technical defeat for violations can be challenged in the prescribed manner in higher sports.
In addition, a technical victory or a draw can be awarded during tournaments according to some rule systems, when in the next round one of the participants does not have a pair for the game. For example, this is possible in the Swiss system with an odd number of participants, or in the Olympic system when the number of participants is not a power of two (in the latter case, no one can be awarded - the Olympic system requires a certain result of the meeting).
