Biography

Ian MacDonald was born March 31, 1960 in Manchester ( England ). Ian's mother was Irish, her father was a Scotsman. When Ian was five years old, his family moved to Northern Ireland . The future author grew up against the backdrop of the ethno-political conflict in Northern Ireland 1968-1998 (the so-called "Problems" ), which could not but have an impact on his attitude and future creativity. Many of the author’s works, in one way or another, touch upon the problems of postcolonialism and the relations of the Third World countries with the former metropolises .

In 1982, the magazine "Extro" published the debut work of I. MacDonald - the story of The Island of the Dead ("Island of the Dead"). The debut novel Desolation Road ("The Road of Despair") was published in 1988. The novel, inspired by Ray Bradbury 's The Martian Chronicles and Marquez 's One Hundred Years of Solitude , was praised by critics and won the 1989 Locus Award for Best Debut Novel.

Currently, Ian MacDonald lives in Belfast (Northern Ireland) and works as head of development for a large telecommunications company.
