History

Badge of the Soviet period "Abrau Durso"

The Abrau-Durso plant dates back to the date of the decree of Emperor Alexander II - on November 25, 1870, a specific estate “Abrau-Durso” was created near Lake Abrau and the Durso River, which became the property of the royal family.

The rise of wine production in Abrau-Durso begins in 1891 - with the appointment of Prince L. S. Golitsyn as Head of Specific Winemaking. In 1894, L. S. Golitsyn built a basement for 10 thousand buckets of wine. By 1897, five similar cellars had already been built in Abrau-Durso, in which champagne production was concentrated. The first edition of 13 thousand bottles was produced in Abrau-Durso under the guidance of French specialists in 1896 . In December 1898, the first batch of champagne with the Abrau brand (25 thousand bottles) was released. The volume of production was small, champagne was supplied only to the royal court and the aristocracy.

At the beginning of the 20th century, French experts were invited to Abrau-Durso to develop champagne production. In particular, Victor Dravigny, who successfully worked in Abrau-Durso from 1905 to 1919.

In 1920, on the basis of the former royal estate, the winery state farm Abrau-Durso was created. Then, A. M. Frolov-Bagreev , the founder of the reservoir method for the production of sparkling wines, becomes the head of the enterprise. The first circulation of Soviet champagne in the amount of 36 thousand bottles was produced under the direction of A. M. Frolov-Bagreev in 1920 [2] .
