Protein G ( English protein G ) is an immunoglobulin binding protein that is expressed in streptococci of groups C and G. Protein G has similarities to protein A , but is specific in nature. Protein G has a molecular weight of 58 kDa (in the case of protein C40) or 65 kDa (in the case of protein G148). Protein G binds to the F c region of antibodies and therefore is widely used for the purification of immunoglobulins. Protein G molecules also bind albumin .
Other immunoglobulin binding proteins
There are other bacterial proteins that bind immunoglobulins - protein A , protein A / G and protein L. These proteins are used for purification, immobilization and isolation of immunoglobulins. These antibody binding proteins have different immunoglobulin binding profiles.
