Biography
Friedrich Frey was born into the family of industrialist Daniel Frey and Anna Elizabeth Sulzer in Lindau (Bavaria). In 1810, the family moved to Aarau (Switzerland). There he graduated from high school, then studied chemistry at Lausanne and the College de France in Paris . In 1824 he married the daughter of industrialist Henrietta Eroze and added her last name to his. They had 5 children. In 1834 he was elected to the cantonal parliament of Argau and in November 1837 entered the Small Council (Government) of the canton of Argau. As president of the Military Commission, Frey was also the supreme commander of Argau. In 1847, he participated in the Civil War as chief of staff under the commander of the Union Army, General Guillaume Henri Dufour . After the defeat, Sonderbund was a member of the Commission on the Adoption of a New Federal Constitution. In the first election he was elected to the Federal Council from Argau.
