According to Strabo , in antiquity the main city of the region was Arefireya on Mount Coilose ; but this city was abandoned early by the inhabitants, who settled a few kilometers away, at Asopa , founding Flint.
The city had an acropolis, with temples of Ganymede or Hebe , Demeter and Artemis ; Hebe's temple served, by the way, asylum. According to Pausania , the Phliasians were of Argives. During the invasion of the dorians, Fluint dorizirovatsya, with some of the residents moved to Samos and Klazomeny .
The form of government was originally aristocratic; then, after a period of tyranny , an oligarchy was established. Before the Peloponnesian War, Flint was on the side of the Spartans; 200 fliasiytsev fought under the command of Leonid I at Thermopylae with the Persians .
In 394 BC. er a democratic movement took place in Fliunt, after which the exiled oligarchs turned to Sparta for help. Although the Fleasians opened the gates to the Lacedaemonians , the oligarchy was restored only after a series of internal strife and a new invasion by the Lacedaemonian army under the leadership of Agessilay II . After that, despite the attempts of democracy to gain a foothold in Flunta and the attacks of the Argivians, Sikionians and Arcadians, the Fliasians remained loyal to Sparta.
In the period immediately preceding the Roman conquest, Flint was on the side of the Achaean alliance . The second-century geographer Claudius Ptolemy referred to Fliuet as a part of the Argives area.
