Biography
Agis II was the son of King Archidam II and his first wife Lampito. He ascended the Spartan throne in 427 or 426 BC. e. after father’s death.
During the Peloponnesian War , from 426 BC e., Agis II led the Spartan troops invading Attica . In 418, he defeated the alliance of the Peloponnesian cities ( Argos , Mantinea , Elea ), who opposed Sparta and supported Athens . In 413 BC e. occupied Dekelei (in Attica). In the years 405-404 BC. e. participated in the siege of Athens.
Agis II died in 402 or 401 BC. e. The new king of Sparta from the family of Euripontides was his younger half-brother Agesilaus II .
