Biography
Pramoda Bhushan was born in October 1898 in the village of Ganganandapur in Jessore County (now Bangladesh ). He graduated from high school in the small town of Baruipur, which was a rather rare occurrence for those years. After school, he left for Calcutta to study chemistry at Bangabashi College. There in 1917 he met his guru Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati , a famous preacher of Gaudiya Vaishnavism . In 1923, on the day of the festival of Krishna-Janmashtami , he received from him a spiritual initiation and spiritual name - Pranavananda Brahmachari. Possessing literacy and accuracy, he soon began to shorthand numerous lectures and speeches of Bhaktisiddhanta, and was soon appointed editor of publications of the Gaudiya Matha , a religious organization founded by Bhaktisiddhanta. Pranavananda constantly accompanied his guru on preaching tours and served him as a personal secretary. After the death of Bhaktisiddhanta in 1937, he began to travel all over India with the sermons of Gaudiya Vaishnavism, and also continued to serve as editor-in-chief of the Gaudiya Math publications.
In 1942, Pranavananda Brahmachari accepted sannyasa, the renounced order of life, and received a new name - Bhakti Pramod Puri Swami. A rite of passage to sannyasa was held at the Temple of Sri Goura-Gadadhara in the town of Champahatti, Nabadwip .
Bhakti Pramod Puri Swami knew all the rites and traditions of Gaudiya Vaishnavism very well, and therefore he was invited to the famous Yogapith Temple, which was opened at the birthplace of the founder of Gaudiya Vaishnavism - Caitanya (1486-1534). There he served for more than seven years and became known among his co-religionists as one of the few mystics qualified to call on deities in the murti . Throughout his long life, Bhakti Pramod Puri Swami repeatedly installed murti deities in Hindu temples of all movements. Throughout his life he repeatedly secluded himself for a long time for fasting and prayers.
He began to accept students very late - in the 1990s. Pupils from all over the world came to him in the city of Puri , Orissa . Then he founded his religious organization Sri Gopinath Gaudiya Math . After his death in 1999, Sri Gopinath Gaudiya Math led Bhakti Bibudha Bodhayan Gosvami.
