Vachelyayka - a ravine with a drying stream, the right tributary of Teshnyarya, the Sura basin. It was part of the Bartenevsky volost of the Gorodische district. In 1877 in the village there were: a church, a school, 2 inns. In 1955 - the center of the village council, the central estate of the Kuibyshev collective farm. In the 1980s - the central estate of the Kuibyshev collective farm.
From the history of the village
The first settlers of Vachelya first settled down 2.5 km from the village of Nizhny Myval near the forest, on the banks of a ravine with a stream ( erz. Rep-lashmo ). When the stream dried up, the inhabitants of this village settled on the right bank of the river Myvalka. But soon they left this place. They, apparently, were not satisfied with the terrain, dampness, and dirt. Having also removed from this place, the settlers moved their buildings to the large road - the Catherine Highway, and here, along the coast of a large ravine with a stream, they chose a new place - five kilometers from the village of Nizhny Myval. But this, the third in a row, place did not like the immigrants! It was too dry here, the lands around were barren, the stream at the bottom of the ravine ( Erz. Kalmo-Latko ) dried out in hot time. In addition, residents were often bothered (offended) by passing along the highway. And after several decades, having changed three places of residence, having mastered large tracts of fertile land, the Kachelaevites finally settled in last, fourth place - along a small rivulet. Here they settled forever. The place here is such that there is no better.
The folk tradition has been preserved, which states that at the time the last place was occupied by the Vachelians, new families arrived here and settled on the other side of the river. Unlike the natives of N - Myval, they still have a different pronunciation of the sounds "v" and "f". They pronounce the sound “x” instead. (Lovso - lohzo, kathfa - katha, and even in Russian - love - lyubokh, etc.). One version of the origin of the name of the village of Vachelai is associated with these new settlers. They allegedly arrived here from the village of Kachelaya, now the Republic of Mordovia, and gave the name to the village of Vachelai, changing the first letter of the word-name Kachelai and it turned out, supposedly, the name of the village is Vachelai. The name of the village of Vachelai was formed, of course, not from Kachelai. The fact is that in the book “List of Populated Places of the Penza Province”, the village of Kachelai was called the village of Kochaley, and the village of Vachelai was called the village of Vachalei and refinements were given — the village of Vachalei at the Vachaleyka stream. From this we can conclude: these two toponyms each have their own history of education.
