Biography
The date and place of birth of P. A. Sokolov is unknown.
In 1814 - 1828 he worked in the troupes of I.F. Stein and O.I. Kalinovsky in Kharkov and Voronezh. Since 1829, it independently organizes an enterprise in Voronezh (1829), Tambov , Saratov , Simbirsk (1829-1833), Kazan (1833-1842), Ufa (1842-1843). The troupe was recruited mainly from serfs , and Sokolov himself was engaged in their training; also metropolitan actors were invited to the entreprise. So, in Kazan, M.S.Schepkin and P.M.Sadovsky played near Sokolov (from here he switched to the Moscow stage). Under the leadership of Sokolov, the talent of the famous provincial actress E. A. Ivanova , his former common-law wife, was formed.
In the summer of 1843 he brought the troupe to Yekaterinburg and rented for staging the empty premises of the former hospital. It is believed that with its premiere performance on November 5 (17), 1843, the history of the theater in Yekaterinburg begins [1] .
After 2 years, by the decision of the local authorities, the stone building of the City Theater was built for the Sokolov troupe, and from 1847 to 1857 he staged performances there. In the spring the theater toured in Irbit , in the summer - in Perm .
For productions, Sokolov chose plays mostly of “easy” genres: vaudeville, comic operas and comedies.
In 1857, Sokolov went bankrupt and left Yekaterinburg, leaving the troupe. He spent the last years of his life in Tobolsk . The exact date of death is unknown - around 1865 .
