Glaucidium mooreorum

Glaucidium mooreorum (lat.) - bird of the owl family. The species was discovered more than 19 years ago, but was described only in 2002 by the Brazilian ornithologist H.M. Cardozo da Silva and his colleagues from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

The size of the bird is about 15 cm, weight - 57 g. It is endemic to the state of Pernambuco , located in eastern Brazil . The specific Latin name was given to the species in honor of the founder of the Intel corporation, G. Moore , who in 2001 donated $ 261 million for IUCN. The population is less than 50 adult birds. It is included in the list of rare and in need of protection of IUCN species.
