Mari El (train)

The first train to the Yoshkar-Ola station arrived on the night of October 21-22, 1928 . From this date, it became technically possible to carry out railway communication between Yoshkar-Ola and Moscow ^[2] . However, regular passenger traffic to Moscow began only in 1967 , and the Mari El branded train began running from June 3, 1973 . The train got its name in honor of the Mari El Republic, whose capital is the city of Yoshkar-Ola.

Starting December 1, 2010 , it was put into general circulation with the Ulyanovsk - Moscow train, retaining the status of a branded train.

Historically, the exterior design of the cars was a dark green background with a narrow yellow stripe under the windows and a large inscription “ Mari El ” along the entire side. The details of the interior decoration were everywhere present national Mari ornament . The historical feature of the design of the train was the spelling of the name of the republic through a hyphen: " Mari-El, " which was gradually corrected only by the end of the 1990s.

After combining with the Ulyanovsk branded train in 2010, the train consisted of branded cars of this train (dark blue cars with the inscription “ Ulyanovsk ” along the side).

Currently, the train contains only gray wagons of the company color of Russian Railways . Train conductors are dressed in branded clothing.

• The train “Mari El” presents compartment and reserved seats cars ^[3] , as well as sleeping cars of increased comfort (CB) . One of the train cars is equipped with a compartment for passengers with disabilities. Each of the cars is equipped with air conditioning and dry closets. The first two train cars are non-branded company train cars.

• The train is formed in the carriage depot of the Ulyanovsk station of the Kuibyshev railway .
• In January-April 2011 , the Mari El branded train transported 96.8 thousand people ^[4] .
• On the way, the train passes through 7 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, namely the Republic of Mari El , the Republic of Tatarstan , the Chuvash Republic , Nizhny Novgorod , Vladimir , Moscow Regions and Moscow , and also crosses large water arteries: the Oka and Volga rivers.
• In the section from Yoshkar-Ola to the Zeleny Dol station, the train runs under diesel traction; at the Zeleny Dol station, the locomotive is replaced by a main electric locomotive.
• In 2008 , the rolling stock of the train was almost completely updated due to new cars, replacing the old ones, production of the GDR, which have worked out their normative period. The cars of the new series 61-4194.05 from the Tver Carriage Building Plant provide passengers with a modern level of comfort - air conditioners , closed toilets are installed here, which can be used in sanitary zones of large cities and in parking lots. In the compartment of the conductor there is an on-board computer that monitors the operation parameters of various devices and equipment. There is a running line with information for passengers.
• When the train departs from Yoshkar-Ola station and upon arrival of the train to the station, the anthem of the Mari El Republic is played.

• On April 4, 2000 , on the 24 km of the Pomary - Ilet railway line ( Kazan branch of the Gorky Railway ) in the area of ​​Lake Yalchik , a soil failure was discovered under the railway track. At 7 hours and 20 minutes, 1 hour and 20 minutes before the passage along the section of the Mari El train, traffic was closed. Passengers from the Zeleny Dol station were sent to Yoshkar-Ola by bus. In the evening, passengers were delivered to the Zeleny Dol station by bus for departure to Moscow. The next day, train traffic was restored ^[5] .
• On June 6, 2008 , the Mari El branded train on the 559th kilometer of the Pilna - Knyazhikha stretch ( Murom branch of the Gorky Railway ) at half past one on the railway bridge hit a herd of cows . As a result of the incident, 29 animals were killed, an electric locomotive was seriously damaged, the movement on the stage was paralyzed for an hour and a half. None of the passengers and railway workers were injured. The culprit of the incident was recognized as a farmer who did not follow his herd ^{[6] [7]} .
• On March 7, 2010 , the Mari El branded train on the 5th kilometer of the Zelyony Dol - Yoshkar-Ola section ( Kazan branch of the Gorky Railway ), at 20 hours 20 minutes Moscow time , at an unguarded railway crossing, collided with a Hyundai Getz car trying to cross the track to the prohibition signal of the traffic light. Five people were injured in the incident: the driver of the car and four of its passengers. With injuries of varying severity, they were taken to Zelenodolsk city ​​hospital. There were no injuries in the train, the movement on the stage was completely restored after 1 hour 20 minutes ^{[8] [9]} .
