Tashkent district was formed in 1926. The center of the district was designated the city of Tashkent .
According to data from 1929, the district was divided into 11 districts: Angren, Begovat, Upper Chirchik, Mirza-Chul, Nizhny Chirchik, Parkent, Pskent, Middle Chirchik, Tashkent, Havast, Yangi-Yul.
July 30, 1930 Tashkent district, like most other districts of the USSR, was abolished. Its areas were directly subordinated to the Uzbek SSR.
The population of the district in 1926 was 672.3 thousand people. Of these, Uzbeks - 48.8%; Russians - 19.8%; Kazakhs - 12.9%; Kuramintsy - 7.0%; Ukrainians - 2.3%; Tajiks - 2.2%; Tatars - 1.8%; Jews - 1.4%.
