Biography

Sylvia Derbes was born March 8, 1932 in the family of French-born entrepreneur Marcelo Derbes Gilly ( French: Marcel Derbez Gilly ) and Maria de la Luz Amesquita. Sylvia dreamed of becoming an actress, but her father was categorically against it. But with the support of her mother, the girl was able to realize her dream.

At the age of fourteen, in 1947, under the name Lucille Derbes, she made her debut in the film “ La Novia del Mar ”. The following year she starred in the film " Tarzan y las Sirenas " (USA) with Johnny Weissmuller in the title role, where she played the role of a mermaid.

In 1953, she participated in the Miss Mexico contest, where she took second place. In 1955, she starred in the role of Elsa in the film "River and Death" directed by Luis Bunuel .

Died of lung cancer on April 6, 2002 .

In 2001, Sylvia was forced to leave the filming of La Intrusa on the 30th episode due to health problems associated with lung cancer. Her role was successfully played out by another Mexican actress Barbara Gil . This was the last work of Sylvia Derbes on television - a year later the actress died.

Family

She married a publicist Eugenio González Salas (died in 1986 ). Two children were born in the marriage:

  1. son - Eugenio Derbes (born September 2, 1962 ) is a comedian, former husband of the famous Mexican actress Victoria Ruffo .
  2. daughter - Sylvia Eugenia Derbes - mother of film and television actress Sylvia Eugenia (born 1976 ).

Prizes

  • In 1957, she was nominated for an Ariel Award for Best Supporting Role in a production of El Rey de Mexico .
