One of the brightest stars of Uruguayan football in the period preceding the appearance of the world championships . His African descent, coupled with a high level of football prowess, contributed greatly to the collapse of the racist barriers that prevailed in South American sport at the beginning of the 20th century .

Biography
Gradin is recognized by many football historians as one of the greatest Uruguayan football players in the pre- 1930 era. He was the top scorer in the first South American championship of 1916 .
At the club level, he played for Peñarol and won the Uruguayan championship in 1918 and 1921. Altogether, Gradin played 212 matches for Aurinegros, scoring 101 goals in them.
Gradin played for the Uruguayan national team from 1916 to 1927, playing for it in 24 official matches and scoring 10 goals. He became the winner of the South American Championships of 1916 and 1917 and the vice champion of 1919.
Isabelino Gradin also became famous as an outstanding athlete. In 1919 and 1920, he knew no equal at the South American Championships in Athletics in 200 and 400 meters (2 gold medals in each of the tournaments) [1] .
