The European Science Fiction Society (The European Science Fiction Society - ESFS ) is an international [1] public organization uniting professional [1] writers, translators, science fiction editors and numerous fans [1] - people who love, understand and appreciate science fiction. The organization aims to promote science fiction in Europe and European science fiction throughout the world. The company organizes and acts as a regulator of the international convention Eurocon . The organization is also responsible for awarding the annual European Prize in the field of NF [2] .
The official languages are English, French, German and Russian [1] .
Content
History
ESFS was based on the first European science fiction convention in Trieste ( Italy ) in 1972 [1] .
Eurocon
Eurocon is the European science fiction congress. According to the ESFS constitution, the convention should be held at least once every 2 years, but since 1982 the convention has become, in fact, annual. At each convention, a vote by national delegations determines where Eurocon will be held next year. Thus, the place of behavior of the two nearest Eurocons is always known. The first Eurocon was held in Trieste, Italy in 1972 [3] .
In 2008 Eurocon was first held in Russia [3] .

ESFS Constitution [5]
The ESFS Constitution is the main document defining the activities of a society.
The Constitution covers the following issues.
- goals and objectives of society
- membership issues
- financial matters, including grants
- choice of governing bodies
- rights and responsibilities of governing bodies
- the procedure for awarding European Prize in the field of NF
- conflict resolution procedure
Governing Bodies
The main governing bodies of ESFS are the ESFS Committee and the ESFS Board. The board is a permanent body. The committee is convened during Eurocon and Euroconferences. The Committee may also meet in an extraordinary session.

Board members are elected for a term of 3 years and may be re-elected for the same term. Former board members are members of the Committee for life [3] with an advisory vote. National delegates are elected by each country according to their own rules and must be citizens of the countries they represent.
