Wakeboarding or wakeboard (often just a wake , from the English wakeboard : wake - wake , board - board) is an extreme sport that combines elements of water ski slalom, acrobatics and jumping. Wakeboarding is similar to snowboarding , skateboarding and surfing . One of the developing sports and recreation.
Two disciplines are distinguished in wakeboarding: a wakeboard boat and a wakeboard electric traction (cable wakeboarding). In boat wakeboarding, an athlete rides a boat, holding on to a halyard , and performs various tricks using a traveling wave and jumps .
In cable wakeboarding, the athlete moves through the water using a mechanized rope-towing system that replaces the boat. There are ring installations where the movement takes place in a circle (wake parks), and reverse installations where the athlete can only move forward and backward.
In Europe, cable wakeboarding is much more developed than boat wakeboarding due to its accessibility and environmental friendliness. More than 100 wake parks have been built in Europe, more than 20 wake parks in Russia and many reversible home-made rope towing systems. In wake parks on the water surface, springboards and other floating or stationary figures are placed, which athletes call in while moving in a circle.
The boat, moving at a speed of 29–38 km / h with additional ballast on board, leaves behind a wave, which the skater uses as a springboard for jumping. In the jump you can perform many different tricks.
Tugboats are specialized wakeboard sport boats. There are more than 20 tow boat manufacturers in the world. The most famous companies included in the "Big Five": MasterCraft, Malibu, CorrectCraft, Supra, Centurion Boats.
