The company was established in December 2002 as a result of the accession of the Finnish Sonera to Swedish Telia (formerly Televerket company).
On March 23, 2017, the Sonera brand [1] , which existed since 1998 and, after the merger, was used in the double spelling - TeliaSonera , was completely discontinued. At the same time, roaming for phone calls and SMS messages in the EU countries was canceled [2] .

Owners and management
The largest shareholders of the company (as of September 30, 2012) are the governments of Sweden (37.3%) and Finland (11.7%), funds of the Capital Group (3.1%), Alecta (2.6%) and Swedbank Robur funds (2 , 3%) [3] The market capitalization of the company as of June 21, 2007 was $ 33.15 billion [4] .

Activities
The company’s activities are concentrated in the field of backbone data and cellular services. TeliaSonera together with its subsidiaries serves 80.1 million customers in Sweden , Finland , Norway , Denmark , the Baltic countries , Turkey , Georgia , Azerbaijan , Russia , Moldova and other CIS countries.
The total number of staff is more than 29,000 people. Revenues for 2006 - 12.9 billion US dollars , net profit - 2.7 billion dollars [4] .
Azerbaijan
Since 2008, TeliaSonera has owned 38.1% of the shares of the mobile operator Azercell since 2008, however, after the corruption scandal of 2015 [5] , the company decided to completely leave the Transcaucasus market.
Georgia
Since 2007, TeliaSonera owned a 58.55% stake in Geocell , while Turkcell owned the remaining 41.45%. Later, TeliaSonera increased its stake in Geocell to 74.3%. In Georgia, TeliaSonera is represented under the brands Geocell and Lailai .
Denmark
In Denmark, TeliaSonera is represented under the Telia and Call me brands. She also owns 50% of the dlg tele operator.
Spain
In Spain, TeliaSonera owns 76.6% of the local operator Yoigo , which provides services in 3G networks, as well as, under an agreement with Telefónica , in 2G networks.
Kazakhstan
In Kazakhstan , Fintur Holdings (its shareholders are the Turkish mobile operator Turkcell , 38.1% of the share capital, and TeliaSonera, 61.9%. In 2011, Kazakhtelecom JSC announced the sale of 49% of the TeliaSonera mobile company, after Upon completion of both stages of the transaction, TeliaSonera’s effective participation in Kcell will be 61.74%. Latvia
In Latvia, TeliaSonera owns a 49% stake in the LMT mobile operator operating under the LMT and Amigo brands. She also owns a 49% stake in Lattelecom , a provider of fixed and corporate communications services.
Lithuania
In Lithuania TeliaSonera owns 88.15% of TEO LT telecommunications company [6] . She also completely owns the mobile operator Omnitel , which provides its services under the brands Omnitel and Ežys.
Moldova
TeliaSonera owns 74% of Fintur Holdings BV, which holds a 99% stake in Moldcell , one of the two leading mobile phone operators in Moldova.
Nepal
In Nepal, TeliaSonera owned 60.4% of the Ncell mobile operator before the sale of the company in March 2016.
Norway
In Norway, TeliaSonera is represented by the brands Telia , Onecall and Mycall
The purchase of the Norwegian branch of Tele2 for 5.1 billion SEK (~ 550 million euros) is planned for 2014, which will increase ownership in the Norwegian mobile communications market by up to 40% [7] . The company also plans to expand its 4G network in Norway.
Russia
TeliaSonera in Russia has its own fiber optic network going from the border with Finland to Moscow. The main points of accession of TeliaSonera are located in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tver and Kostomuksha. TeliaSonera owns 38% of Turkcell mobile operator in Turkey .
Uzbekistan
In Uzbekistan , TeliaSonera owned 94% of Coscom LLC’s cellular operator, which provides mobile services under the Ucell brand, however, after the corruption scandal of 2013 [8] [9] , the company decided to completely leave the Central Asian market. On December 05, 2018, Telia announced the sale of its stake to the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the Promotion of Privatized Enterprises and the Development of Competition. Vladimir Kravchenko, who previously headed the Uzmobile Company, was appointed Director General.
Estonia
In Estonia, TeliaSonera owns 100% of the telecommunications company Eesti Telekom , which provides cellular services under the EMT trademark and Internet and telecommunications services under the Elion trademark.
