Museum Night

Museum Night is an international event dedicated to the International Museum Day , during which you can see museum exhibits at night. On this night, many museums are open to visitors after sunset and almost until the morning. The main goal of the action is to show the resource, opportunities, potential of modern museums, to attract young people to museums.

The first “Museum Night” was held in Berlin in 1997.

"Night of the Museums" in Yekaterinburg in 2009

In 1999, at the initiative of the French Ministry of Culture and Communications, entitled “Spring of Museums”, as May 18 is Worldwide Museum Day .

In 2001, 39 countries of Europe and America have already taken part in this action; in 2005, the “Spring of Museums” grew into the “Night of Museums”.

In Russia, the Krasnoyarsk Museum Center became the first follower; in 2002, he first proposed visiting the museum at night [1] [2] .

In 2005, 750 museums of France and 500 museums of Europe took part in the action.

In 2006, 11 museums from St. Petersburg joined the action. In the same year, the museums of Saratov (the Saratov Regional Museum of Local Lore and the Saratov Art Museum named after A. N. Radishchev ) take part in the action for the first time. .

In 2006, the Central State Museum of Kazakhstan for the first time held an action "Night at the Museum" [3] .

In 2007, Moscow and Yekaterinburg museums joined the European countries for the first time: several city museums took part in the Night at the Museum action, extending their work until 21:00 Moscow time.

In 2008, museums of St. Petersburg joined the international campaign. [4] As part of the St. Petersburg action, 33 city museums and exhibition halls received more than 24 thousand midnight visitors .

In 2009, 2300 museums in Europe , including France and Russia , were participating in the action. In Russia, more than 100 art organizations (federal, city and private museums and galleries) take part in the Night at the Museum action. In 2010, the action was held on the night of May 15-16.

In 2011, the action in Moscow took place on the night of May 14-15, 159 city museums took part in the action. In addition to going to the museum, Muscovites were able to go on bus excursions around the city that night. 40 exhibition organizations took part in Yekaterinburg, which opened 58 venues in the city. In total, the project "European Museum Night in Yekaterinburg - 2011" was visited by 67,000 people .

In 2011, on the initiative of the Pokrovitel Foundation and the Living Water company, the leading museums of Orenburg joined the action for the first time, and from 19:00 to 00:00 they managed to receive a total of an incredible number of visitors for their history - about 3,000 people per day.

In 2012, the action took place on the night of May 19 to 20.

In 2013, the action took place on the night of May 18-19.

In 2014, the action took place on the night of May 17-18. 73 sites worked in Yekaterinburg (58 in 2011), which were visited by 95 thousand people [8] (67 thousand in 2011) [7] . Thus, we can ascertain the growing popularity of the stock in the fourth largest city in Russia.

2015

In 2015, the action took place on the night of May 16-17. Her main theme was a line from the work of Alexander Twardowski : "We fell for the Motherland, but she is saved." The action will be timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

St. Petersburg

Over 250 cultural institutions were opened (museums, galleries and art clusters) .

2016

The action took place on the night of May 21-22. In St. Petersburg "Nights" was attended by 99 museums, exhibition and concert halls, galleries and libraries. Museum programs were visited by more than 80 thousand people .

2017

In 2017, the “Night of Museums” was held from May 20 to 21.

In St. Petersburg, the action was dedicated to the Year of Ecology in Russia; more than 110 museums, galleries, libraries, concert and exhibition halls were opened in the evening and at night .

2018

In 2018, the action took place on the night of May 19 to 20. The theme of the action is “Masterpieces from the storerooms” [9]

2019

In 2019, the action took place on the night of June 17-18. The theme of the action is '' Elements ".
