From 1918 to 1928 it was called "Bauman Square", from 1928 to 1992 - "Bauman Square", in honor of the revolutionary Nikolai Bauman , who was killed on October 18, 1905 in the vicinity of Elokhovskaya Square; a monument to him stands in a square near the square.
Directly on the square is the bell tower (narthex) of the Epiphany Cathedral , although the address of the latter is registered on Spartakovskaya street .
