Nectarius of Optinsky (in the world Nikolai Vasilievich Tikhonov ; 1853 , Yelets - May 12, 1928 ) - clergyman of the Russian Orthodox Church , hieromonk . He was glorified as locally venerated on July 26, 1996 [2] , church-wide along with the other 12th Optina Elders at the Council of Bishops on August 13-16, 2000 [1] ; during his lifetime he was revered as an old man .

Biography
Nikolai Vasilyevich Tikhonov was born in 1853 in the city of Yelets, Orel Province in a poor family of Vasily and Elena Tikhonov. His father was a worker at the mill and died early. Mother died shortly after the death of her father, and the boy remained an orphan. From the age of 11 he began to work in a merchant's shop and by the age of 17 he rose to the rank of junior clerk.
In 1873, Nicholas went to Optina deserts , where he was received by the Monk Elder Ambrose . The content of their conversation the Monk Nektarios did not open to anyone, but after it decided to stay in the monastery forever. Rev. Anatoly became his spiritual mentor.
Under the guidance of his tutors, the Monk Nectarius quickly grew spiritually. On March 14, 1887, he was tonsured into the mantle, and on January 19, 1894 he was ordained a hierodeacon , and four years later he was ordained by the Kaluga bishop as a hieromonk . In 1912, the Optin Brotherhood elected him to the elders.
In April 1920, he was tonsured a great schema.
After the monastery was closed in 1923, St. Nectarios was arrested [3] . After returning, he lived for a short time in Plokhino , after in the village of Kholmischi, Ulyanovsk District, Kaluga Region, in a peasant family.
The Monk Nektarios died on April 29 ( May 12 ), 1928 at the age of 75 and was buried in a rural cemetery . After the revival of the Optina Desert, July 16, 1989 , on the day of memory of Metropolitan of Moscow Philip , the relics of St. Nectarius were acquired.
