Feat
In the rank of major, he commanded a battalion of the 767th infantry regiment of the 228th infantry division of the 37th army of the Third Ukrainian Front . In battles, while trying to gain a foothold on the right bank of the Dniester after it was forced, he personally led the battalion's fighters in a bayonet attack and was hit by machine-gun fire. The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded on September 13, 1944. Streets in his native village in the Voronezh region and in the village of Parkany near Tiraspol are named after Romanenko.
