History
The first game in the series, Puyo Puyo , was developed by Compile in 1991. She used characters from the role-playing game Madou Monogatari , developed by the same companies in 1989. Subsequently, the game was ported to a number of other systems.
In 1992, Sega received partial rights to the series and released a version of the game in the form of an arcade slot machine , which led to an increase in the popularity of the series. The game is also licensed by Nintendo . Sega and Nintendo have released versions of the game for their game consoles with characters from their popular franchises - Sonic the Hedgehog and Kirby .
Subsequent games in the series were developed and published by various companies. In 2002, with the closure of Compile, the development of the series was continued by the Sonic Team internal studio, which retained partial rights to the series.
Since 2001, games in the series have also been released under the name Puyo Pop , for countries outside of Japan.
Since January 12, 2017, it has been announced that Puyo Puyo Tetris will be released outside countries on the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 . It is believed that the localized version will include a new scoring and interface in English.
Gameplay
The gameplay of the games in the series resembles the Tetris and Columns games. The playing field is a glass in which multicolored round translucent creatures with eyes fall, called Pue. The player must fold them in the same color so that they touch. When you create a chain of four or more Puyo, they disappear from the playing field. The peculiarity of the game is the ability to create series - the player can arrange Puyo in such a way that when creating a chain and the disappearance of one group of creatures, the next series will form. Another feature is the presence of the game mode against the computer or the second player, where when creating a series with one player, the empty Puei fall into the glass of the other, disappearing only when the group of colored creatures adjacent to them disappears.
