Electric scooter - a two- or three-wheeled single-seat vehicle using an electric motor powered by a battery. There is also a “water electric scooter” (a type of electric ship) and an “underwater electric scooter of the senior mechanic Konstantin Gerchikov” - electric vehicles for traveling on water and under water, respectively.

Power Source
An electric battery is used as a power source in an electric scooter (in the latest models it is often supercapacitors ), or a hydrogen fuel cell . At the beginning of 2009, the vast majority of electric scooters used a lithium-ion or lead-acid (cheaper option) battery. The average charge time required for a full charge is 4-8 hours. The distance covered on one charge is from 30 to 150 km.
Advantages and disadvantages
Advantages compared to a gas scooter:
- Low noise
- Low operating costs (electricity is cheaper than gasoline, there is no need for regular oil changes, etc.)
- Lack of toll, parking fees (in the European Union, USA and many other countries including Russia)
- There is no emission of fuel combustion products into the atmosphere (environmentally friendly in case of using electricity obtained from environmentally friendly energy sources)
- Indoor operation possible
Disadvantages Compared to a Gas Scooter
- High starting price
- Less power reserve
- Longer “charging” times (models on supercapacitors are free from this drawback)
- High battery replacement costs as they age
History
- In the 1860s , the first mention of patents on electric motorcycles
- Prototypes were created in 1911 (EM History: 1911 Popular Mechanics)
- The first mass-produced electric scooter was created by Peugeot in 1996 under the name Scoot'Elec. The power of this unit was 2.8 kW (4 hp).
- In 2007, a Killacycle motorcycle using a lithium-ion battery set a new world record for ¼ mile speed, which it covered in 7.824 seconds (270 km / h) in Phoenix, USA .
- An electric scooter is also a type of electric wheelchair. On such an electric scooter, in particular, Vladivostok - Moscow Alexander Kashin makes a run.
The electric scooter acquired particular popularity at the beginning of the XXI century .
Manufacturers
The bulk of electric scooters (as well as scooters) are produced in China and Asia .
An increase in the production of electric scooters and an increase in the number of manufacturers are currently too fast to make it possible to single out leaders.
Consumer Market
Asia and China are also the main market for electric scooters - for example, at the beginning of 2009, about 22 million (electric?) Scooters were operated in Vietnam [ clarify ] with 85 million people .
In India, in 2008, about 100 thousand electric scooters were sold [1] .
China in 2008 sold about 21 million electric two-wheeled vehicles [2] .
