Cycling tourism ( cycle tourism ) is one of the types of tourism in which the bicycle serves as the main or only means of transportation. The concept of "cycling tourism" is ambiguous and refers to both one of the types of outdoor activities , and a kind of sports tourism .

Cycling as an active activity
Cycling as an active holiday consists in cycling routes containing general tourist and excursion-specific objects for cycling. The complexity of such trips can range from simple to extremely high; routes are laid out in such a way as to take advantage of the advantages that a bicycle provides for quick movement along a route. The main differences between such cycling trips and sports cycling focused on obtaining sports categories and titles are the rejection of deliberate complication of the route, the division of trips into difficulty categories and the combination of the sports component of the trek with sightseeing of cultural and natural attractions. Among the types of outdoor activities, cycling is a leader in speed of movement and length of routes.
Types of bike tours
- One-day bike trip - a bike trip without overnight stays. As a rule, departure in the morning, arrival in the evening of the same day.
- LDPE - “Weekend Trekking” - a trip with one overnight stay, as a rule, departure on Saturday morning and arrival on Sunday evening.
- Multi-day bike trip - a bike trip lasting several days with overnight stays.
Sport cycling
Sports cycling is included, along with other types of tourism, in the Federation of Sports Tourism of Russia and in the Federation of Sports Tourism of Ukraine, under which there are commissions for all types of sports tourism, and various tourist clubs.
Categorization
In cycling sports there are six categories of difficulty hiking . The first category is the simplest, the sixth is the most difficult. The difficulty category of the trip is determined by the methodology for categorizing bicycle trips. The minimum length of a cycling trip of the first category of difficulty is 300 km.

Bicycles
The specifics of cycling impose certain requirements on the construction of a bicycle. For example, the “ Tourist ” bicycle manufactured by KhVZ has 4-5 gears, light weight compared to conventional road bikes. Unlike a sports bike, a tourist bike provides a higher cross-country ability, a more direct fit for a cyclist. Bicycles for cycling (except sports) have front and rear luggage racks for bags and backpacks.

Long transportation of a large load on the back is unpleasant and harmful to the spine, which is caused by the specific pose of the cyclist. Therefore, they usually have a small volume - from 5 to 35 liters and are designed for short routes for transporting the drinking system and a minimum of clothing.
For backpacks are characteristic:
- Bright coloring, the presence of reflectors and mounts for the beacon.
- The characteristic shape, tapering up. Due to this, aerodynamic drag and the likelihood of a backpack catching on branches hanging over the road are reduced.
- External helmet mounts.
Baggage
Luggage velor backpacks (“velvet pants”, velokhurdzhins [2] , crossover bags) are attached to the trunk of a bicycle, while parts of the backpack are usually hung on both sides of the wheel. By the number of branches are divided into:
- one-volume;

The most common bike backpacks. Only in them is it possible to transport sufficiently large loads. They have a volume of 8-10 to 90 liters, often - a rain cover and carrying straps, as well as an external load securing system.

Small-sized subframe and seatpost bicycle bags are used for tools (glove compartment), a spare chamber, a bicycle kit, bortovoks and the like.
