Biography
In the 1920s worked in the Munich police along with the future Gestapo chief G. Muller .
Member of the NSDAP since 1931. Member of the SS since 1939 (No. 322 118).
October 21, 1931 was transferred to Berlin .
Since December 1, 1934 - assessor in the government of Bavaria . April 20, 1939 received the title of Hauptsturmfuhrer , September 9 - Sturmbannfuhrer . In 1940 he was appointed head of Group A (Marxists, Communists, Reactionaries, Liberals; general security measures and countering sabotage) of the Gestapo .
On July 29, 1940 he was appointed police attache at the German embassy in Sofia, he worked in this position from August 1940 to September 1941, in addition to “resolving police issues”, his tasks included “advising the Bulgarian police” [1] . January 1, 1941 he was awarded the title of Obersturmbannführer , July 5, 1943 - Standartenführer .
Since September 4, 1943 - Head of the Security Police and SD in Riga ; at the same time headed the Einsatzgruppen SD "A". September 24, 1943 received the title of Oberfuhrer . He returned to Berlin on May 20, 1944 and again led the Gestapo Group “A”.
From July 20, 1944, he was the head of the 5th Directorate of the RSHA ( criminal police, “crypto” ) instead of the SS group-führer A. Nebe who participated in the July conspiracy ; held this position until the fall of the Reich. Since October 14, 1944 - Police Oberst .
After surrender, Germany was hiding. November 18, 1946 was arrested by the Soviet occupation authorities; during interrogations in the Soviet secret services, he testified about the struggle of the German counterintelligence against the Red Chapel . On March 22, 1952, the military tribunal of the troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Moscow District sentenced him to 25 years in prison.
October 11, 1955 transferred to the authorities of Germany . He worked in the foreign intelligence service of Germany.
In 1959, after the investigation of the murder of the French general Gustave Mesny (who was shot dead by SS men on January 19, 1945 near the city of Nossen ), committed suicide, awaiting arrest on charges of facilitating mass killings.
