The ɑ symbol should not be confused with the ɒ symbol, denoting the rounded vowel of the lower back row , characterized by labialization .
Properties
- The vowel of the lower rise , that is, the tongue should be maximally moved away from the palate .
- Vowel of the back row - the tongue moves to the base, without touching the lower teeth.
