The exposition mainly consists of reproductions of classical sculptures that have been lost or destroyed, as well as works that now exist as separate parts and assembled together.

These are copies of statues, busts, inscriptions, reliefs and fragments of life-size buildings, models of monuments and architectural complexes of Rome and the provinces of the Roman Empire , as well as utensils, household items and work tools. The museum is divided into 59 sections, located on an area of ​​13 thousand square meters. m. with a total length of walls of 3 kilometers and a height of about 10 meters.

In the first 14 rooms there is a kind of historical synthesis of the origin of Rome until the VI century BC. e. Among the exhibits, a geographical map can be noted, which shows the conquests of the Roman Empire in historical development, portraits of emperors and prominent people, including Julius Caesar , Augustus , Claudius , Nero , Brutus , Pompey , Cicero , mock-ups of numerous monuments of Augustus , Trajan , North , Aurelius .

In the section devoted to Christianity, copies of inscriptions and early Christian reliefs, sarcophagi are exhibited, among which are the sarcophagus in the porphyry of Constantine , the daughter and namesake of the emperor , the sarcophagus of the city prefect Junius Bass and St. Ambrose .

The sections of the museum restored Roman civilization in its various aspects: social and everyday life, baths , aqueducts and reservoirs, theaters, amphitheaters , circuses and gymnasiums with models of the Coliseum and Marcellus Theater in Rome .

Noteworthy is the complete collection of copies of the Trajan’s column with reliefs depicting two military campaigns of Trajan against Dacia (101-102 and 105-106 A.D.), as well as a model of Rome (scale 1: 250, surface 200 sq. M.), Made architect Italo Jismondi based on the results of many years of excavation and research and reproducing the city from the time of Emperor Constantine . This model, which helps to study the ancient city in comparison with the modern city, was started for the exhibition “The Greatness of Ancient Rome” in 1937 and completed in the 1960s.
