Mahla ( Heb. מחלה ) is the daughter of Salpaad (Tslofhad) ( Num. 26:33 ). One of the five sisters who demanded to inherit the land of the deceased father, since he did not have sons ( Num. 27: 1-11 ). A positive decision involved the need to marry a cousin ( Num. 36: 1-11 ). Sholem Aleichem mentions a question for testing the knowledge of a home teacher: “What does Rashi say about the daughters of Tslofhad?” (That all were righteous).
