Biography
- Born on June 15, 1898 (according to various sources, 1907 or 1905 ) in the village of Gehanush of the Kafan region , now the Syunik region of the Republic of Armenia , in a peasant family. Armenian by nationality. After moving with his family to Uzbekistan, he received an incomplete secondary education. He worked as an inspector of the district financial department of the city executive committee of the city of Samarkand .
- In September 1942 he was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army . Since that time, at the front, he fought in the infantry as a machine gunner of the 201st Guards Rifle Regiment ( 67th Guards Rifle Division , 6th Guards Army , 1st Baltic Front ).
Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1942 . He particularly distinguished himself in the summer battles of 1944 on the territory of Belarus during the Operation Bagration and the Baltic States.
- On June 22, 1944, the battle for the settlement of Nuts ( Sirotinsky district of the Vitebsk region ) of the Guard, Corporal Arutyunov, destroyed 5 Hitlerites with machine gun fire and put down a machine gun point.
- On June 24, he was among the first in the strike group to cross the Western Dvina in the vicinity of the village of Uzrechye ( Beshenkovichi district of the Vitebsk region ). He took an active part in the battles for holding the bridgehead. He was wounded, but soon returned. For the heroism and courage shown during the crossing of the Western Dvina and the expansion of the bridgehead, he was presented to the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. However, the hero did not manage to receive the award on July 3, 1944 when the liberation of the settlements of the Zarasai region of Lithuania, Corporal Arutyunov died.
- By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of July 22, 1944, for the exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the struggle against Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism of the guard shown, Corporal Mikhail Arutyunov Mikhail Agatelovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
- The hero was buried at the battlefield near the village of Salas ( Ostrow ). After the war, the remains were transferred to a military cemetery in the village of Smalvos, Zarasai region of Lithuania . An obelisk is installed on the grave.
