In 1972, a prototype of the 155 mm GCT self-propelled howitzer (Grande Cadence de Tir) was developed. In 1979, the system was adopted by the French army under the designation 155 AUF1.
Content
Design Description
Self-propelled artillery mount on the tracked chassis of the AMX-30 tank with a rotating turret.
Armament: 155 mm howitzer (barrel length 39 calibers). The gun is equipped with a two-chamber muzzle brake. The unit is equipped with a semi-automatic loading system, providing a maximum rate of 8 rds / min. The initial velocity of the projectile is 810 m / s. Auxiliary weapons - 12.7 mm machine gun.
Used high-explosive, active-reactive, smoke and lighting shells, as well as shells with an adjustable trajectory "Bonus".
Additional equipment: system of protection against weapons of mass destruction, auxiliary gasoline engine with a power of 6.5 kW.
The calculation consists of four people: the gun commander, gunner, loader and driver.
Modifications
AUF1T
1988 modernization. Instead of an auxiliary gas engine, a gas turbine power of 10.5 kW was installed . Improved charging system. Released 97 units.
AUF1TA, AUF2
Experienced options designed to replace AuF1. Made on the basis of the tank AMX-30B2 . Equipped with a modernized automatic fire control system and automatic guidance system. An AUF2 installation was equipped with a 52-gauge gun, providing a range of up to 42 km with an active-rocket projectile. The maximum rate of fire is brought up to 10 rds / min.
In 2003, in connection with the adoption of the 155-mm CAESAR self-propelled howitzer, it was decided not to upgrade the AUF1 self-propelled howitzer to AUF2 level.
