Biography

Sergei Podgorny was born on January 1, 1954 in the town of Bucha in the Kiev region, the Ukrainian SSR in a song family. Both parents and his grandfather sang well. In school years he participated in amateur performances, played the role of Lukas in the play "Fox Song".

In 1973, he was invited by Leonid Bykov to the film “ Some Old Men Are Going to Fight ” for the role of Viktor Shchedronov, nicknamed Smuglyanka, instead of Anatoly Mateshko who refused to shoot.

Since 1976 , after graduating from the KGITI named after I.K. Karpenko-Kary , he worked at the Dovzhenko Film Studio .

Until 1995, he starred quite actively, in supporting roles and episodes. Then, as an actor, he was not in demand until 2008 , when he received a role in the Ukrainian film “ Cinderella from a Paradise Island ” (released in 2009 ) [3] .

He was twice married. Son Vladimir from his first marriage (working at JSC Krasnaya Polyana as an engineer in the department of cableway operation) and daughter Sasha, a university student.

He lived in the Kiev region , the city of Bucha, along with an elderly mother [4] .

After the death of Leonid Bykov, the actor began to actively abuse alcohol .

He died of a stroke on the evening of July 18, 2011 in the intensive care unit of one of the hospitals in the city of Irpin . The cause of death was acute heart failure [5] . The actor was buried on July 21 at the Buchi city cemetery [5] .
