Ruri Hoshino ( Jap. 星野 ル リ Hoshino Ruri ) is a fictional character in the anime series Martian Successor Nadesico . He is also the main character of Martian Successor Nadesico: Prince of Darkness and appears in Gekigangar III , as well as in the manga based on the series. According to the description of the character developer, Ruri is his favorite creation among viewers. In 1997, at the Grand Prix of the magazine “ Animage ”, she took the third place among female characters [1] . The following year, she rose to second place and in 1999 won first place among female characters [2] [3] . All these three years, she remained the most popular female character "Nadeshiko." A review from the Anime News Network website notes that Ruri is trying to parody Ray Ayanami from the anime " Evangelion ", published a year earlier [4] . From the point of view of the THEM Anime review, Ruri looks like what Rei should have been [5] .

Biography
Ruri Hoshino - Nadeshiko navigator. "Branded" phrase of the heroine - "tank-tank", which meets any nonsense made on Nadeshiko. She is also the most beautiful female character in the series, which is why she became the winner of the Miss Nadeshiko competition, but refused the main prize - the captain of the ship.
According to official information, she was an orphan, and seven years before the main events of the series began, she was adopted by a couple who worked at the Nergala computer research laboratory. There she was trained to become a member of Nadeshiko, whose construction was to be completed in six years. It was supposed to be compensation for her training. In fact, Ruri is the first princess of the Kingdom of Peaceland - a neutral nation, which began with an amusement park and later became rich due to the legalization of gambling. At the time of the events of the series, the bank of this kingdom is as respected as the bank of Switzerland .
Ruri's parents for a long time could not have children and tried to create a child "in a test tube". However, the laboratory in which this attempt was made was blown up by terrorists, and the test tubes were taken to the Nergala laboratory. Most of the embryos in them had already died by then, the rest became part of a genetic engineering experiment. For them, they picked up the perfect place - with clean water and not damaged ozone layer. Instead of living people who can’t be perfect, Ruri’s parents were computer imitations, always praising her and never scolding her. Everything superfluous was excluded from education and only what was really needed in life was left for children. Ruri was the only successful result of this experiment. Parents were looking for her for a long time and, to the end, to their great joy they found. After Ruri became aware of the truth about her origins, she chose to stay on Nadeshiko instead of her kingdom.
