First Trinity Cathedral

Precursor Temples

In December 1722, the Izhora saw mills laid the first linen church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker , which was consecrated on May 6 (17), 1723 .

On September 26 ( October 7 ), 1735, a wooden church of the Holy Trinity was consecrated next to it with the aisle of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker [1] .

Cathedral

On August 3 (14), 1758, a new stone church was laid near the wooden church in the name of the Holy Trinity with the chapels of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God and St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. It was consecrated only in 1773 . The author of the project was probably S. I. Chevakinsky .

The temple was part of the Kolpino Izhora plant of the Marine Department.

March 29, 1918 the church was given the status of a cathedral church.

On January 3, 1919, Trinity Cathedral became the center of the Kolpino Parish, which united all the churches of the city.

In July 1932, the Presidium of the Leningrad Executive Committee made an attempt to close the cathedral with its subsequent transfer to the needs of the clinic. On June 5, 1938, all the bells remaining at that time were removed from the bell tower. March 29, 1937 by the decision of the Leningrad Executive Committee of the Trinity Cathedral was finally closed.

In 1938, the church fence around the temple was liquidated. The cathedral was converted into a cinema "Ray", which opened in September. In connection with the German offensive in August 1941, the NKVD special group blew up the upper part of the bell tower [2] .

After World War II, the inhabitants of Kolpino petitioned for the return of the cathedral. However, on January 10, 1949, the Leningrad City Council rejected the application. On November 5, 1951, the petition of the Department for Museum and Monument Protection of the Restoration of the Cathedral was stopped: by order of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR to exclude the temple building from the list of architectural monuments. In 1957 - 1958 the cathedral was finally demolished.

In 1980, on the territory partially adjoining the Trinity Cathedral, a sports hall was built at the Leningrad Metallurgical College , which made it impossible to restore the cathedral in its former place.

On August 29, 1996, a memorial wooden Izhora Cross dedicated to the lost Trinity Cathedral was erected in the city garden, within the former church fence. Its discovery was dedicated to the 55th anniversary of the first shelling of Kolpino. This day was the beginning of the death of the cathedral. The installation was carried out by the Izhora Regional Public Foundation for Youth and Military-Historical Programs “KACHUR” [3] .

Architecture, decoration

The Trinity Cathedral complex consisted of the temple itself and a separate bell tower to the west. In 1901, two stone chapels were built and consecrated to the north and south of the bell tower.

The cathedral building was a five-domed church, with one dominant central dome and four small, located on the diagonals. It had in the form of a cross. From the east there was a rounded altar apse . From west to east, the cathedral was 33.6 meters wide, and from north to south - 29.5 meters.

In front of the main western facade was a granite porch with a staircase on three sides in five steps. Above the main entrance to the temple in a mahogany case there was an image of the Holy Trinity.

The internal arches of the temple rested on 4 tetrahedral stone pillars . These columns from all sides were decorated with icons in large cases.

The central three-tier iconostasis was pale blue with sixteen gilded columns and gilded figures of ten angels . On the gilded carved Royal Gates in silver robes were the icons of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and four Evangelists.

The three-story stone bell tower was 53 meters high and overlooked Cathedral Street (now Uritsky Street) with its facade. In its middle part there was a gate. The bell tower ended with a high bell-shaped ribbed dome with a spire, the total height of which with the dome was 23.5 meters.

The bells were placed on two tiers. The largest bell, weighing 8.3 tons, was in the upper tier. Nearby was another bell, a little smaller, weighing 5.4 tons. The remaining bells were placed on the lower tier, among them were cast in the XVIII century . Here were seven more bells of small weight.

The bell tower of the Trinity Church was the main dominant of Kolpino and was visible many kilometers from it. On the axis from this bell tower on the left bank of Izhora, Tsarskoye Selo Avenue (now Lenin Avenue) was pierced towards the Moscow highway (now Moscow Highway ).

Miracle Icon

The main shrine of the temple was the miraculous image of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker . He was at the right choir in a carved gilded icon case under the canopy . The appearance of the image occurred in 1713 . The icon was decorated with gold robes and a crown with diamonds and precious stones. In 1797, an annual procession was held with the icon from the Trinity Cathedral to the Yam-Izhora Chapel.

The icon of St. Nicholas, which appeared on December 23, 1713 to the worker Jacob, who suffered from a scurvy disease , was in the hospital with an old saw mill. The icon is 8 points long and 6 points wide. The riza on it is silver, of the 84th test, gilded, weighing 1 pound 49 gallons, lined with many precious stones ...
The icon is placed in a silver gilded case, in which silver is 6 p. 13 evil The image of the miracles of the saint, around the icon, is also lined with a silver-plated robe, in which it weighs 18 p. 30 gold

On the robe there is the following inscription: “ 1713 , the month of Decembria, on the 23rd day, on the Izhora River, in the saw mill, the image of St. Nicholas appears in the blue image. In the same year of 1713 , in November and December, former working people with the same saw mill in work, lay a celiac disease and a skin tumor, that is, scurvy; and many working people died; and that December month, on the 22nd, this night the image of St. Nicholas and the Miracle Worker appeared in a hospital, a working man, in the Kargopol district, named after Jacob, who lay with the same illness, near death, with other sick people, and ordered his holy image with to remove this hospital, more recently this image lay there on the ground, not known to anyone and not shy, and very dilapidated.

And according to the testimony of this working man, this holy image was restored in February 1714, on the 5th day, with the care and joy of being at the Izhora saw mill of the nobleman Feokrist Abramovich, son of Vyndomsky, with other god-loving men, and from that time this illness ceased and was in good health the appearance of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, and others like us see it quickly. ” [4] 1884.

In 1937, after the closing of the cathedral, the miraculous icon was seized by the local authorities and disappeared without a trace. Until today, nothing is known about her fate. The icon of St. Nicholas, which was one of the lists of the miraculous icon, which was located in 1947-2013 at the Trinity Church “Kulich and Easter” on Shlisselburg Avenue in St. Petersburg, was transferred to it in December 1947 by the inhabitants of Kolpino Pelageya Ivanovna Piskareva and her sister Paraskeva, who found this icon in 1941 on the ashes of the Kolpino Nikolskaya cemetery church, which burned down in August of that year as a result of shelling [5] .

On December 13, 2013, the icon of St. Nicholas was transferred from the Trinity Church “Kulich and Easter” to Kolpino Trinity Cathedral, where from that time it has been located in the Kyoto, on the south side of the altar.

Work on the construction of a new cathedral, designed by architect Sergei Igorevich Kryukov , began in the fall of 2003 . A place was allocated for the construction of the temple on the banks of the Izhora River. It is not possible to restore the cathedral in the old place due to the built-up area of the former church site.

The solemn laying was made on December 19, 2004 by the Dean of the Tsarskoye Selo District, Archpriest Gennady Zverev.

The first liturgy was served on the feast day of June 11, 2006 in the still under construction cathedral. In 2007, the cathedral was already erected in draft. Finishing work has begun. In 2009, a permanent iconostasis was established.

The ceremonial consecration of the main aisle of the cathedral was performed on December 19, 2009 by Bishop Markof (Vetrov) of Peterhof. The right side chapel is consecrated with a small order in the name of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos .

A two-story church house was built near the cathedral (the lower floor is stone, the upper is wooden).

Behind the altar of the cathedral (actually in the fence of the St. Nicholas Church) there are currently four graves: the first psalmist of the Holy Trinity Cathedral Dmitry Sergeyevich Ermakov (1975-2009); one of the philanthropists of the Holy Trinity Parish of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of JSC Domostroitelny Zavod No. 5 Reginald (baptized by Kondrat) Alekseevich Kondratyev (1950-2014); the first rector of the parish, Archpriest Sergiy Romadov (1962-2017) and one of the founders of Expressbalt LLC and the philanthropist of the parish, Sergei Alexandrovich Kozhemyakin (1949-2017). Near the graves, on September 5, 2015, a small obelisk of red granite was opened with the inscription "In memory of the sons and daughters of the defenders of the land of Izhora . " At the bottom of the obelisk there is a plate with the text: "A foundation stone at the site of the future monument was installed in the year of the 70th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945."

Since 2010, the parish has been publishing its own newspaper , Holy Trinity Herald.
