Ace Combat is a series of arcade simulator video games developed by Namco . The first game in the series, Air Combat , was released in December 1992 as an arcade slot machine ( Arcade System Namco System 21 ). In 1995, she received a sequel, also released as a slot machine. Until 2011, each game in the series always came out on only one gaming platform, being its exclusive. In 2011, Ace Combat: Assault Horizon was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 game consoles , and in 2013 for Microsoft Windows , breaking the tradition.

Game World
The action of all games in the series, except Ace Combat: Joint Assault , Ace Combat: Assault Horizon , Ace Combat: Northern Wings and Ace Combat Infinity , takes place on a detailed geographically alternative version of the Earth . The solar system and the starry sky in the world of Ace Combat are identical to the real ones, the circumpolar regions of the planet ( Arctic and Antarctic ) also coincide with the real ones to the smallest detail, however, the shape and location of the continents south of 60 Β° north latitude and north of 60 Β° south latitude are different from real ones.
In addition to Antarctica , there are four more continents in the world of Ace Combat. Corresponding to northern Europe and the European part of Russia, Anea is the peripheral northern continent that does not play a significant role in world politics. The large southern continent of Verusey ( Eng. Verusea ), resembling a smaller Eurasia with a fragment of Africa , is separated from Anea by the sea. The largest continent is Osea ( Eng. Osea ), located on the site of both Americas and separated from Anea and Verusei by the Pacific Ocean (much smaller in latitude than in the real world). Finally, the smallest continent of Usya ( Eng. Usea ) is located from Osea to the east, beyond the Atlantic Ocean .
Political geography and the history of the world of Ace Combat also differ from the real ones, although many parallels can be drawn between them and the real world. East Axis - the cradle of civilization, fragmented into many states, acts as a kind of analogue of Europe; Among them, the Principality of Belka stands out ( English Principality of Belka , an analogue of Germany ). The Union of Yuktoban Republics, which occupies most of Verusei, is deducted from the USSR , and the Ossey Federation, which occupies most of Osea, is from the USA . The Aurelia and Lesheat located in the south are reminiscent of Latin American countries.
There are no full-fledged analogues of Africa and Asia in the world of Ace Combat, and it is very Westernized .
An important feature of the gaming universe is also a constant threat from space. Asteroid 1994XF04 Ulysses from 1994 to 2016 threatened an alternative Earth, and on July 3, 1999, fragments erupting through the atmosphere caused catastrophic destruction on the continents of Aney and Usey. To protect the planet, anti-space defense systems that have no analogues in the real world were created, which played an important role in the events of several games in the series.

In the twenty years since the beginning of the Ace Combat series, at least 15 games saw the light, some of which, for example, Ace Combat 2 (1997), Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies (2001), Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War β(2004) andβ Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation β(2007) were received very critically by critics. On the other hand, individual episodes - Ace Combat Advance (2005), Ace Combat Xi: Skies of Incursion (2009), and Ace Combat Infinity (2014) - received mixed and rather negative reviews.
In 2008, the total number of sold copies of the games in the series reached 10 million [36] .
