Biography
He studied first at the University of Breslavl , then, together with his friend Max Ring , transferred to the University of Berlin .
In 1848 he became a privat-docent, in 1849 - an assistant at Shenlein , in 1853 - the chief doctor at the Charite hospital, in 1857 - a professor at the Friedrich Wilhelm Institute and in 1872 - at the University. Traube is considered the founder of experimental pathology in Germany. His most important studies include works on Digitalis and fever; thanks to the latest research, he became the founder of the scientific measurement of temperature in medicine. This also includes his work on diseases of the lungs, heart, and kidneys. His importance as a clinician and doctor is as great as a theorist. His merits in physical diagnostics put him next to Laannek and Skoda.
Together with Virchow and Reinhardt, he published Beiträge zur experimentellen Pathologie ( Berlin , 1846–47).
