1868 year. In New Zealand, there are "land wars" between white settlers and natives.

Young Irish Sarah lives at a military base in New Zealand. Her lover from the Maori people dies during the flu epidemic, but Sarah has a son left with him. When the boy was 7 years old, the grandfather from the Māori abducts him. Sister and father of Sarah, frightened, swim in a boat on the river - forever. She remains to find and return her son.

Armed skirmishes of Maori and colonialists. Sarah is asked to cure the leader of an enemy tribe, terminally ill, and she does this, because for this they promised to return her son. But it turns out that after 10 years he despaired of waiting for his mother, and the tribe replaced his house and raised him.

Sarah gnaws at her conscience for saving the enemy, she rushes between the two camps, trying to understand where her house is.

This is the story of the war, not from the point of view of political patriotism, but from the side of a woman whose life from a young age to a weathered maturity took place on troubled land and away from loved ones.
