Liahvi Nature Reserve was established in 1977 to preserve high mountain forests. Located in the upper part of the Malaya Liakhvi river basin in the Tskhinvali region of South Ossetia . The reserve is located at an altitude of 1200-2300 m above sea level and covers an area of 6084 hectares , including forest forest 5283 hectares. It covers a number of gorges, including the Gnukh gorge . It is planned to conduct a complete design and study of the reserve, as well as expanding the borders. The territory of the only national natural park is currently not temporarily protected by the state.

The western border near the village of Belot will be rigidly blocked according to the protection regime and the position of the reserve.

Culture
- In 1957, a program about the region was shot in the South Ossetian region, part of the film was also shot in the reserve.

Soil
Dark brown mountain forest soils and coniferous forests predominate.
Flora
Grow: Chestnut , Alpine Oak , Mountain Ilm , Birch elliptical , Birch Radde , Boxwood , Yew,
Buckthorn Imereti, Hornbeam, Cypress, Apple Valley.
fir, spruce, maple, ash, chestnut, birch, alder, aspen successfully fit into the forests.
Fauna
Inhabit: Caucasian deer, Roe deer , Hedgehogs, Brown bear , Field mice, Lynx , Foxes, Wolves, Marten , Caucasian black grouse , Caucasian ular , Mountain partridge , etc.
Current status
Due to the unstable situation in the territory of the former South Ossetian Autonomous Region, the reserve was unattended for a long time. Now the authorities of South Ossetia are planning to recreate the conservation zone and clarify its borders [1] . Despite the enormous work to restore the entire infrastructure of the republic, the president and the government allocated funds for the creation and reorganization of the first (post-war) Liakhv state reserve of the republic. The reserve began to function in 2009, but the workers of the reserve did not receive wages, and today the reserve is not technically equipped.
