Since 1941 - a participant in the Great Patriotic War . In one of the battles in the Carpathian region, on leaving August 21, 1944, he was seriously wounded in the chest and sent to hospital for treatment, after which in November 1944 he fought with the rank of senior lieutenant guard, intelligence officer of the headquarters of the 26th Guards Cavalry Regiment ( 7th Guards Cavalry Division , 1st Guards Cavalry Corps , 21st Army , First Ukrainian Front ). Upon his arrival in the regiment, the chief of staff of the regiment T. S. Kugryshev wrote in his commander's diary:

Arrived in the regiment from the hospital after treatment. There are no awards. Appointed to the post of intelligence chief, I think I was not mistaken in my assumptions, managing ...

Repeatedly Arustamov carried out the tasks of the headquarters for the organization of intelligence behind enemy lines. George proved himself a competent, brave officer. He knew the organization and armament of enemy units and units. I was always ready to report briefly, clearly and to make a generalized conclusion about the enemy in front of the offensive front or in front of the regiment's defense front. He carefully studied the information of the higher headquarters about the enemy and sought to verify this data with his own, albeit limited, means of intelligence.

Last battle near Bischofstal

On January 21, 1945, during the battle near the city of Toast ( Upper Silesia ), based on intelligence, it turned out that the Nazis were going to counterattack the advancing regiment from the south, thereby putting the operation to reach the banks of the Oder in the Buchenau region in jeopardy. On the night of January 21 to January 22, in order to prevent a German counterattack, a detachment was sent by force of a squadron and seven tanks, the squadron was previously rushed and landed on tanks . A volunteer volunteered to participate in this operation and Arustamov.

At dawn on January 22, 1945, a battle ensued near the village of Bischofstal (now Uyazd in the Opole Voivodeship , Poland ), the enemy opened fire on the tank landing, and German anti-aircraft guns located behind the canal opened fire on tanks. Arustamov was wounded in the leg, but continued to fight with the Nazis. The combined reconnaissance and sabotage detachment headed by him destroyed and captured up to two hundred enemy soldiers and officers, knocked out two tanks, two armored personnel carriers and several guns, and senior lieutenant Arustamov personally destroyed up to 20 German soldiers [2] . The detachment, having destroyed the enemy, suffered heavy losses, including the assistant to the chief of staff for reconnaissance of the guard, senior lieutenant Arustamov.

From the memoirs of retired colonel T. S. Kugryshev, a former commander of the 26th Guards Red Banner Cavalry Regiment of the 7th Guards Cavalry Division:

On February 11, 1945, for his fearlessness in battle, G. A. Arustamov was introduced by me to the rank of Hero of the Soviet Union. On February 14, my performance was formalized at the division headquarters and on March 8 at the headquarters of our cavalry corps. No, no, and I take out a small group photograph of the officers of my regiment. An orphan made between fights. The young faces of their comrades in arms are looking at me, and among them is the handsome George. May his memory live in the Stavropol Territory, as well as about all the brave sons of the Motherland who brought victory at the cost of their lives.

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated June 27, 1945 “for exemplary execution of the combat missions of command on the front of the struggle against Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism shown at the same time”, the senior lieutenant Arustamov Georgy Arkadievich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union (posthumously).
