Loreto is a city and commune in the Italian province of Ancona , in the Marche region. The most famous city brought the Basilica of Santa Caza , a place of pilgrimage for Christians from around the world.

Location

Loreto is located at an altitude of 127 m above sea level on the right bank of the Muzone River.

Attractions

Most of the monuments of Loreto are around the main square of the city: Jesuit College; City Palace (Palazzo Comunale, formerly called the Apostolic Palace - Palazzo Apostolico), designed by Donato Bramante , which includes galleries showing the works of Lotto , Vue and Karacci , as well as a collection of majolica . The Basilica of Santa Caza is known throughout the world for its sanctuary, where the house of the Blessed Virgin Mary ( Holy Hut) is preserved, the very house where the Blessed Virgin received the good news from the archangel Gabriel. On December 10, 1294, he was transported to Loreto and placed in the huge Basilica of Our Lady of Sorrows, founded in 1469 specifically to house the Most Holy Theotokos.

Loreto also has a city wall line designed by Sangallo Jr. , built in 1518 and fortified in the 17th century .

The city is known as the birthplace of the image of Our Lady of Loretta, revered in Orthodoxy as the icon of the Mother of God " Add Mind ."
