History
Wiley was established in 1807 when Charles Wiley opened a print shop in Manhattan . The company has published 19th-century American writers such as James Fenimore Cooper , Washington Irving , Herman Melville and Edgar Allan Poe . During the second industrial revolution, Wiley began publishing scientific, technical, and engineering literature. The company changed its name several times depending on the current owner and got its real name in 1876 , when William Wiley joined the business of his father, John, and his older brother, Charles (namesake of the founding grandfather). In the twentieth century, the company expanded its publishing activities in commerce, science and higher education. Since 1901 , Wiley and its subsidiaries have published the works of more than 350 Nobel Prize winners . [2]
