The area is 876.06 km² (of which 158.206 km² is occupied by the Brezin military training ground), the population is 89 016 people. The district has 79 municipalities, of which 5 are cities, 3 are towns.

Geography
Located in the east of the region. Within the region, it borders the Brno-Suburbs region in the west, Hodonin in the south-west, Breclav in the south and Blansko in the north-west. In the north-east it adjoins the Olomouc region Prostejov , in the east - with the Kromeriz district of the Zlinsky Territory .
