Biography

Born in the town of Pogar, Chernigov Province, on June 8, 1893 , in the family of a merchant Abram Meerovich Kirnarsky.

In the years 1912-1913. He studied at the Graduate Special Architecture School in Paris.

In 1917-1919 studied at the Petrograd Academy of Arts , under I. Fomin.

In 1919–1922 He studied at the Ukrainian Academy of Arts in Kiev under G. I. Narbut . Exhibited for the first time in Kiev in 1921, at the Autumn Exhibition of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts.

In 1923, he exhibited at the Exhibition of paintings by Petrograd artists of all directions. In 1924 he joined the community " Community of Artists ".

Since 1924, works as a master of artistic font. Since the 1920s. designed and illustrated books for the Publishing House of Writers in Leningrad, the State Publishing House of the RSFSR, and the Vremya Publishing House. Kirnarsky was one of the representatives of the so-called “Leningrad school of book graphics”, distinguished by features of a highly cultured, consistently and logically worked out to the smallest detail style. Kirnarsky was a master of the cover, in the design of which he preferred a plane-decorative principle with a symmetrical composition and various frames in the spirit of the neoclassical traditions of the artists of the World of Art. In the 1930s. he was also engaged in typography, mainly in its decorative interpretation.

In 1925, participates in the State competition for the design of the works of V. I. Lenin. In 1927 he took part in the exhibition “The Art of the Book” in Leipzig. In 1929, he participated in the Fifth International Exhibition of Art Book Marks in Los Angeles, California. In 1931, he took part in the exhibition “The Art of the Book” in Paris.

In 1938, M. Kirnarsky held a personal exhibition in the LSSH and his creative evening.

Killed during the blockade of Leningrad , in March 1942. [2]
