Lesser Vespers [1] [2] , or Vespers Leysler [2] ( lat. Nyctalus leisleri ) is a mammal of the bats squad. Belongs to the family of smooth-nosed bats . The scientific name is given in honor of the German zoologist Johann Leisler .

It is found in the territory from Western and Central Europe to Afghanistan and Kashmir . It is found in Russia in the south-west of the country, in the Caucasus and Altai . It prefers old high- leaved broad - leaved and mixed forests, where there are meadow spaces and reservoirs. It can make seasonal migrations of the order of 1000 kilometers. The species is rare throughout its range.
These are small bats with a body length of 58–66 millimeters and weighing 12–20 grams. The small size of the body distinguishes it from other types of evening parties. Color from reddish brown to dark chestnut.
Usually settles in hollows with a round entrance, in groups of 20-40 individuals, females live separately from males. Vespers prefer shelters with a round entrance, because they own their body well enough to slip inside the shelter to disperse, folding their wings. It flies out to hunt immediately after sunset, but in cold weather the evening parties do not feed. It feeds on flying insects: bugs , butterflies , flies .
Echolocation is developed, emits high-intensity signals in the range of 45-15 kHz, with a maximum amplitude of about 25 kHz.
Females usually bring cubs in June, in a brood of 1-2 cubs. Life expectancy in small evening parties is 9 years.
