The headwaters of the river are located in the mountains of Tuscany ( Pistoia province ), but most of Reno flows through the Emilia-Romagna region along the Padana Plain , and then flows into the Adriatic Sea . The length of the river is 212 km; it is the tenth largest river in the country.
The river basin is 5040 km², the largest of the rivers originating in the Apennines and flowing into the Adriatic. On the river, strong floods in the spring and autumn . Until 1797, the Po was an influx, but the flood was changed due to flooding . In the lower reaches of the river canalized , developed shipping . [1] The largest city in the valley of the river is Bologna . The main tributary is the Santerno .
The name of the river has a Celtic origin and the same etymology as the Rhine , and means " flow of water ." The river is mentioned in the “ Divine Comedy ” (“ Hell ”). In 43 BC, on one of the islands of Reno, the Second Triumvirate was concluded.
