Anise aldehyde , p-methoxybenzaldehyde is an organic substance derived from benzaldehyde and methoxybenzene ( anisole ). A colorless, oily liquid with a spicy scent reminiscent of hawthorn flowers. ^[one]

Properties

Soluble in ethanol and organic solvents ; it is poorly soluble in water, propylene glycol and glycerin .

The oxidation of anisic aldehyde produces anis acid .

Being in nature

It is found in small amounts in some essential oils , often with anethole .

Getting

Anethol oxidation with chromic mixture in the presence of ozone or sulfanilic acid :

Methylation of n-hydroxybenzaldehyde :

Application

Applied as a component of perfume compositions, food essences, as a raw material for the production of fragrances ( anisyl acetate ), as well as in the synthesis of certain drugs.

Anisaldehyde bisulfite derivative is used to add shine to plating in electroplating.
